Ellie Moon | 5 tracks that influenced ‘MOONiSMS’

Ellie Moon has released her new EP ‘MOONiSMS’.

The four-track EP is a fun, catchy and carefree release, with each track introducing a versatile twist to her already strong catalogue.

Ellie may be a new name on the scene, but she’s one to look out for. There’s something special about Ellie Moon and we can’t wait to hear more and follow her musical journey!

To celebrate her EP release, we caught up with Ellie Moon to discover 5 tracks that influenced ‘MOONiSMS’.

Blondie – Rip Her To Shreds | Listen via Spotify
Blondie are a really big influence for me, I remember listening to them CONSTANTLY while we were producing the EP! I think this song, in particular, played a big part in the writing/production of ‘Kylie Jenner‘; the sassy lyric with crunchy guitars and the fun bouncy synth lines. Debbie Harry will always and forever be my queen!

Wolf Alice – Don’t Delete The Kisses | Listen via Spotify
One of my favourite bands as a teenager, I remember having this song on loop whilst I was writing the EP and I suppose that must be where that “indie” edge came from. The rolling repetitive synths and the dreamy sound it gave the song really inspired the middle-8 dropout in ‘Kylie Jenner‘, I love it!!

Pulp – Disco 2000 | Listen via Spotify
Another really big influence for me, I absolutely love this song. Pulp have a lot of groovy little synth lines in a lot of their music paired with fun distorted guitars and we wanted to play on that with ‘MOONiSMS’. If you listen you can hear all these funky counter melodies we played in on a vintage Casiotone! Also generally Jarvis’ mundane and “real” approach to lyrics really resonates with me and I think it really influenced the way in which I approach and write my own lyrics – I’m always inspired by the people around me.

Still Woozy – Lucy | Listen via Spotify
The beat in this song is just adorable!! It has that fun “toy-like” sound to it – we used a lot of vintage drum machines and took kind of a different approach to the percussive side of things; we even used bongos at points!

The Beatles – A Day In The Life | Listen via Spotify
Probably one of my all-time favourite songs, every time I listen to it I get goosebumps. I was super inspired by the big, bold brassy sounds The Beatles used and wanted to incorporate that in the EP to give it that fun joyous vibe!!
