EP Review | F.O.E.S. (Fall of Every Sparrow | Ophir

FOES2.1887597Liverpudlian quartet F.O.E.S (a.k.a. Fall of Every Sparrow) have released their debut EP, Ophir. Described as “an intriguingly unique record, [with] a refreshing blend of post-punk and alt-rock,” Ophir has something for everyone.

Sewn to the Sall &Unknown, opens the EP with a demanding drum intro which is then followed by a powerful array of guitar riffs. The vocals are smooth and draw you in from the very first note.

Turning the dial a few notches for a rockier vibe, The Writing On the Wall blasts in with heavy guitar riffs leading to a powerful accompaniment. The vocals contrast the accompaniment, but compliment the music throughout the whole song. It’s one that should feature on Guitar Hero.

Ningyo takes a softer turn, as the accompaniment pulls back for the vocals to rain. The lyrics are unapologetic and resound, alongside music that comes rushing in to support it – definitely my favourite track.

Kicking the attitude up a notch, Four of Oxblood grabs your head and throws it back and forth. Following the loud-to-soft-then-back-to-loud arrangement of the previous tracks, it’s one that gets you moving but also gives you time to catch your breath.

The First Rook to Flee as the Thunder Rolls In closes the EP with a bang. Don’t let to slow opening fool you; it comes rushing in just as powerful as the EP began. A great song to end on; it leaves you begging for more.

Overall, Ophir is an excellent debut EP that leaves you wanting more. It’s now available for you to purchase. I definitely recommend it!
