Danish electro-pop duo have released their debut album ‘Feathers and Scars’.
A celebration of the LGBTQ community, the album features tracks including the band’s latest singles ‘Bridge To Your Heart’, which was produced in collaboration with Lasse Lyngbo and Troels Damgaard-Holm and ‘Let Go!’.
Speaking of their latest track ‘Let Go!’, the band said: “Sometimes you have to set your loved ones free for them to grow wings and so that you can meet again on the other side. ‘Let Go!’ is about feeling lost and not knowing where you are or where you are going. About letting go of conceptions and expectations as to what genders fit certain bodies, which sexualities fit certain people and which bodies desire certain bodies.”
Following their recent single and ahead of the album’s release, Feel Freeze have shared 5 tracks that influenced the album.
Stranger in Moscow – Michael Jackson
On our new record we’ve focused a lot on trimming the rhythmic elements in our music. With our producer, we’ve worked thoroughly with every beat and how it underpins the the melody and harmonies of the song. The beat in ‘Stranger in Moscow’ is maybe the best example of doing this ever. It raises the song and makes it one of the best ballads to ever have been made. (Psst! You can probably hear the inspiration on the track ‘Heroes’ on our upcoming album)
What is Love – Haddaway
Yup, we’ve found a lot of inspiration in 90’s euro dance music – especially the way the bass lines, synthesizer hooks and chorus melodies often work really well and energize these hits. The bassline in ‘What is Love’ really has the groove in its repetitive figure and the underlying hooks in synthesizer and vocals found a big place in our hearts. Also check out Tears and Marble’s down-tempo cover of the song – it has the wildest vibe!
Belongings – Clock Opera
Three or four of the songs on the record were written using a creative writing technique of picking a random tempo and then intuitively recording 10 piano lines on top of each other without thinking to much about it. When the 10 lines are recorded, melodic structures appear that you couldn’t have played with just two hands. We developed this technique inspired by this song by Clock Opera, where looped piano structures are playing around each other. If you listen carefully in the intro you can hear, that the song is build on a piano loop that continues throughout the song. The songs of ours that started with this technique is ‘Let Go’, ‘Bridge to Your Heart’ and ‘Take a Look.’
Like a Prayer – Madonna
Grandiosity, pomposity, greatness! We’ve wanted to higher the ceiling on this album and take our songs and music to new heights. Who does that better than Madonna? This can especially be heard on ‘No Headlights, Just Stars’ and ‘First Dream’ that has big choirs and epic lyrics about dreams and hopes for the future.
22 (OVER S∞∞N) – Bon Iver
As many other modern musicians, we experiment with the technological possibilities to modulate and transform the sound of our voices. It adds a whole new world to singing and composing – seeing the vocal as an instrument with everlasting possibilities instead of just the front singer edition. Bon Iver uses vocal effects as a big part of their compositions – especially on their newest album ‘22, A Million’ – and on ‘22 (OVER SOON)’ the whole composition is built around vocals and vocal samples in the finest, aesthetic way. You might hear this inspiration on our songs ‘In Your Mind’ and ‘Take a Look.’
If we could pick more songs we would start with SOPHIEs “It’s Okay To Cry”, Kavinsky’s ‘Nightcall’ and many many more…
