Flynn Marks | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Cold Comfort’

Flynn Marks has released his new EP ‘Cold Comfort’.

Speaking of the new EP, Flynn said, “’Cold Comfort’ is a five-track EP which attempts to shine a light into the darkest corners of relationships, drinking too much and the fallout, and all the snakes and ladders that lead us toward poor mental health, etc.

“Ultimately though, it’s more about the positive lessons I’ve learned rather than just getting burned – it was compiled in isolation with only carnage of the pandemic for a backdrop. I know it’s not much, but it’s frank and honest and hopefully, it’ll resonate with people and bring a little ‘Cold Comfort’ to what can be considered a very challenging year.”

To celebrate the EP release, we caught up with Flynn to discover 5 tracks that influenced ‘Cold Comfort’.

Stereophonics – Fly Like an Eagle | Listen via Spotify
Stereophonics have always been a massive musical inspiration for me, and I’d definitely say that a lot of their music has influenced my writing style. I love this song so much and had to put it in there.

Noah Cyrus – July | Listen via Spotify
There’s a lovely cyclical element to this song. The lyrics are just beautiful and really thought-provoking. The simplistic guitar movement puts Noah as a vocalist in the spotlight and makes you want to listen to every word she says.

Hozier – Work Song | Listen via Spotify
It goes without saying Hozier’s vocals are sublime! This song has been on my playlists for years and I’ve never got bored of listening to it. I used to love this song when I was growing up, and still to this day so it’s definitely been an influence in terms of production.

Adele – Chasing Pavements | Listen via Spotify
‘Chasing Pavements’ floods me with nostalgia every time I hear the song and it is just so well crafted. This song delivers on every level; vocally, lyrically, instrumentally – just perfect.

Morcheeba – Part of the Process | Listen via Spotify
My dad introduced me to Morcheeba as a kid, and I always loved their music. Part of the Process is a poignant song. Only until I was older I began to understand certain lyrics that I never thought of before. But I just love the way that the song speaks on something that challenges societal norms in a bold way. Love this one.
