Glass Violet have released their new single ‘Over the Moor’.
The track follows the release of their self-produced debut single ‘Chemicals‘, championed by This Feeling, BBC Radio Bristol and Amazing Radio.
Now, the band are kickstarting 2020 with new track ‘Over The Moor‘, an addictive indie rock release that had us hitting repeat.
Speaking of the single, guitarist/songwriter Alex John said: “It’s a song about ends and starts, and phases of life passing you by without you even noticing it’s been and gone.”
To delve into the release, Alex shared with us 5 tracks that influenced the single.
The Killers – When You Were Young | Listen via Spotify
‘Over the Moor’ came about after wanting to make a song that has a similar drive to tracks like ‘When You Were Young’ and ‘Mr Brightside’. It’s always fascinated me how when big songs like that come on, people proper lose it and get full-on into it.
Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run | Listen via Spotify
Again, just another big anthem that people go mental to. I know that this song was a big influence on The Killers track as well, so I guess you could say that this is the true root of inspiration behind the song.
The Waterboys – Church Not Made With Hands | Listen via Spotify
I love the whole “The Big Music” era of things, that Mike Scott had going on through their first 3 albums. And this is one of my favourite tunes of his. I’d say that the flow of the verses and the lyrics and imagery of ‘Over the Moor’ definitely took a hit of the olde inspiration from this one.
Blossoms – There’s A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls) | Listen via Spotify
We originally didn’t have the synth part that follows the lead guitar during the beginning and middle sections, and Tom (Lead Vocals, Guitar) suggested adding it in, and this Blossoms tune was a reference point for the sound that was in his head. Great song as well, one of our favourites from the past few years.
Kings Of Leon – Notion | Listen via Spotify
I love a lot of the lead guitar parts on the ‘Only By The Night’ Kings of Leon record, they’re all pretty simple but very memorable 3 or 4 note melody type things. And I’d say that songs such as ‘Notion’ definitely had an influence on the style and sound of the lead parts in the single.
