Hen Hoose have released a new EP ‘Hen Hoose – EP 3’.
The EP release celebrates creativity with 5 tracks showcasing collaborations between the singers, songwriters, composers, multi-instrumentalists and artists who make up the Glasgow-based collective from across genres and styles.
‘Hen Hoose – EP 3’ features tracks from K4cie and XZO, Elisabeth Elektra and Carla J Easton, Kiana and Tanya Mellote, Sarah Hayes and Ray Aggs, and AMUNDA with Nightwave.
To celebrate the EP release, the collective shared with us 5 tracks that influenced the release.
Influence behind AMUNDA x Nightwave: Pressure
Little Dragon – Timothy
I love the way the melody weaves in and out of the track – it is a dance track but with loads of space – and so we wanted to make a dance track with a full top line.
Mr Fingers – Mystery of Love
My main inspiration for ‘Pressure’ with Amunda was the legendary Chicago house track ‘Mystery of Love’ by Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers; particularly the driving bassline at the start. It’s an absolute classic and I want to bring a little bit of that energy to our song, and give it a modern lift with Amunda’s awesome RnB vocals. – Nightwave
Influence behind Kiana x Tanya Mellotte: The Mountain: Anna Erhard – Picnic at the Seaside
I was listening to lots of Anna Erhard around the time we started writing ‘The Mountain’. I was keen to do something with a spoken word vibe, and this was one of the references I sent to Kiana. I love how the lyrics are delivered, so laid back but the emotion still comes through.
Influence behind Sarah Hayes x Ray Aggs – For All I Care: Arthur Russell – That’s Us/Wild Combination
This song is full of little sonic gems: organic instrumental textures, synth loops, hooky lyric fragments, vocal interplay – all elements which Ray and I wanted to include in our collaborative track, ‘For All I Care’. Arthur’s extraordinary collaging of wide-ranging musical influences, disciplines and scenes is inspiring to us both.
Influence behind Carla J Easton x Elisabeth Elektra: Messed Up: Sleigh Bells – Rill Rill
We wanted to go down a deep dark synth root, with iconic nineties drum stomps and serious breakdown moments where it all spirals down into the depths of the track. I’ve always loved the vocals on Sleigh Bells tracks and how they provide light amidst all the crunches, so we decided to try similar and use layers of us singing in unison to provide a contrast to the dark synth samples. The post chorus features the classic Orchestra Hit keyboard sound that some say you should never use on a record. Well we thought, why the fuck not? Follow it up with some beautiful harp samples and it sounds great. Throw in some synth arpeggios for the final chorus before it all comes crashing back in and job done. Big, bold, fun, anthemic pop!
