Jack Vallier has spent the last 18 months supporting Dermot Kennedy and Jade Bird on their UK and European tours.

Following his non-stop touring sprint, Jack unveiled his new single ‘Changes’, as part of his five-track EP.

To celebrate the EP and single release, we caught up with Jack to develop deeper into title track ‘Changes’ to uncover 5 tracks that influenced the single.

Using the beat in ‘Changes’ that we used was the biggest production decision because it’s so iconic to Drake and urban music, but I’m really glad we did because it’s nice to have a song with meaning that you can also still move to.

Keane – Bedshaped | Listen via Spotify
Any time I write a piano led ballad that revolves around the melody and lyric I think of Keane. I was a big fan as a kid, they have some amazingly written songs.

No one does darkness quite like Banks. In pop music, there’s usually an expectation to release the tension in the chords and make the song sound brighter for a wider audience, but sometimes darkness is just the best way to get the message across.

Lorde – Liability | Listen via Spotify
I listened to the ‘Melodrama’ album on repeat around the time I wrote ‘Changes’, the songwriting was so strong on its own in this song, I wanted to write an honest piano ballad after hearing it.

One of my favourite songs ever, which I always go back to when making music, as it was written over 20 years ago and still sounds so great. I love the thought of making music that will sound good in 2040!
