King Calaway | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Rivers’

King Calaway are preparing to release their debut studio album ‘Rivers’.

Due out on March 6th, the album from the six-piece, including local Edinburgh lad Jordan Harvey, was recorded in single-take full-band recordings.

2019 saw the band featured on TV shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Neighbours, alongside stadium opening slots, before they made their UK in debut in London.

Speaking of the album, the band said: “Rivers is a milestone in all of our lives and a new chapter in our journey as a band. We could not be more proud of what we have created.”

To celebrate their pending album release, we caught up with King Calaway to discover 5 tracks that influenced ‘Rivers’.

Kodaline – Talk (Simon) | Listen via Spotify
The raw emotion of this song – along with the anthemic ending – was a huge influence when recording the KC track, ‘Picture of the Way You Are’.

Keith Urban – Wasted Time (Caleb) | Listen via Spotify
The lively and youthful nature of this cross-genre track heavily influenced the sound we created when recording ‘Driver’s Seat’.

Earth, Wind & Fire – Sing a Song (Austin) | Listen via Spotify
This song is pop and funk perfected! I’m a huge Earth, Wind & Fire fan and always look to them for bassline inspiration, like in our song ‘Obvious’.

Crosby, Stills & Nash – Love The One You’re With (Chad) | Listen via Spotify
We wanted to cut this cover because it played a big part in developing our sound as a band. It was the first song we played together and we wanted to put our spin on it.

Paradise – Coldplay (Chris) | Listen via Spotify
When recording the track ‘Rivers’, it was very important that we were all locked in and together. We looked to tracks like ‘Paradise’ for inspiration.
