KOATES | 5 tracks that influenced ‘The Right Place’

KOATES have shared five tracks that influenced their new single ‘The Right Place’.

Produced by Gary Go (Robbie Williams, Take That, Rihanna), the single comes ahead of the band’s forthcoming sold-out show at London’s The Lexington on November 16th.

Speaking of the single, KOATES said: “‘The Right Place’ is based on a relationship turning toxic. One day you can experience total happiness and euphoria, the next you hit rock bottom. That constant Ping-Pong effect: fight, make up sex, fight, make up sex, is what inspired the song. Just hoping that the toxicity would disappear and you could be in good place.”

To celebrate the single release, the band shared with us five tracks that influenced ‘The Right Place’.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Californication
RHCP are a great three-piece, as are we. We looked into the production of this track and noticed the simplicity of it. Nothing overkill. Keeping it REAL. Our producer Gary Go said: “The plan from the beginning was to stay as true to the 3-piece as possible, but to have the band sound as tough as possible.”

Phoenix – Lisztomania
Dynamically and sonically this song was a great reference when we were recording. The punchy drums was right up drummer Joe’s road. It’s a pleasant road to be on!

Nothing But Thieves – Graveyard Whistling
The vocals in this track is something that was in James’ mind when doing the vocal takes. The intimacy of the vocals matched with a heavier driving track is something we wanted to mirror, mostly in the verses/middle 8.

Young The Giant – My Body
The energy in the guitars of this track is something we wanted to mimic. The raw tone they have is what we were going for.

Foo Fighters – Best of You
Again, much like the Young The Giant track we wanted that energy throughout. Towards the end of ‘The Right Place’ you’ll see exactly what we mean.
