KOKO | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Follow’

KOKO have released their debut EP ‘Follow’.

The debut offering from the Bristol-based electronic trio, the EP features the band’s previous singles alongside brand new EP opener ‘Tell Me Do You Care’.

Speaking of their music, the band said: “Sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down. With every track, we always try to imagine hearing it at 4am in a field with a load of people. We want to take over the world, basically.”

To celebrate their EP release, which serves up a seductively intriguing blend of dark electro-pop, we caught up with KOKO to uncover 5 tracks that influenced the release.

Billie Eilish – Bellyache | Listen via Spotify
Hearing this song for the first time, we were surprised by the production journey it takes. The introduction of the electronic element at the chorus is refreshing and unexpected as at first. This really helped us when it came to experimenting with dynamics within our own songs.

The Neighbourhood – Scary Love | Listen via Spotify
-This song has always been a favourite of ours. We’ve always loved the band! The four to the floor vibe with dark chords made an instant impression on us all. Can’t wait to tour with these guys one day!

The Weeknd- The Hills | Listen via Spotify
There is normally a dark undertone in everything we do, whether it be in the production or the lyrics. This song is so dark with ‘horror movie vibes’ yet it’s so brilliantly delicate at the same time. We always turn to The Weeknd to inspire us to push things as far as we can from a production standpoint.

Radiohead – Creep | Listen via Spotify
Pure genius. A classic! The way it jumps from major to minor is perfect. It’s so simple yet so effective and Thom’s vocals are masterful. We definitely hear Thom’s influence on Oli’s vocal melodies from time to time.

Slow Thai – Doorman | Listen via Spotify
What a banger! This song definitely inspired us to look at writing more up-tempo songs and maybe even consider writing more confrontational lyrics.
