Lacuna Bloome | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Plastic’

Lacuna Bloome have released the first single from their forthcoming debut EP in the form of glistening single ‘Plastic’.

The track teased the Brighton indie quartet’s new sound as the first release from the EP, following their previous singles which received airplay from John Kennedy and Gordon Smart, including our top pick ‘Alright‘

Speaking of their new single, the band said: “‘Plastic’ is about waking up to the biggest issue our world faces, and in particular about the mass use of single-use plastic. It questions whether people will ever make a change to the way they live, and if it will even make a difference. It’s the longest song we’ve ever written, and at times it seems to head into some sort of indie-prog arrangement. We’ve been handling this song for a long time and we really love its final form, length and all. And in a way, we’re making up for lost time.”

Following the release of the single, the band shared with us five tracks that influenced ‘Plastic’.

Brian Jonestown Massacre – Fingertips
Fingertips’ earworm guitar line and distant vocals inspired how we wanted this track to come across and we definitely stole Joel Gions’ ethereal tambourine sounds when adding our own percussion to the track. The whole vibe of that song is echoed in ‘Plastic’.

Our Girl – Our Girl
A fellow Brighton band, we love the way this track makes your head bop in the choruses. The lead guitar sounds transcendental and the whole song has a massive yet effortless sounding wall of sound which we always lovvvee!

Slowdive – Star Roving
This track is definitely one of our favourites of Slowdive’s, it has such a good vibe and pace to it. Another very important band for us.

U2 – Beautiful Day
The vocal performances on this track, in particular, were an inspiration for ‘Plastic’. Bono’s massively projected vocals coupled with the distant and reverberated bvs create a really cool atmosphere.

Underworld – Born Slippy
In the middle section of the song, we looked to a lot of 90’s electronic dance tracks. ‘Born Slippy’ is probably the track that best summed the vibe we were inspired by!
