Late Night Legacy | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Blame’

Late Night Legacy returned following a packed summer schedule with new single ‘Blame’.

Following the success of their previous release ‘Paddy‘, the alt-rockers from Leeds soon saw themselves play festivals including Camden Rocks and Kendal Calling before headlining Monmouth Festival as they received radio support from BBC Introducing and were voted Artist of the Week by Richer Sounds.

Not bad for a band who have only released 4 tracks to-date!

To celebrate their new single release, we caught up with the band to delve into the inspiration behind ‘Blame’.

Speaking of selecting their influences, frontman Ryan Kitto explained:“It’s difficult to select just 5 tracks that influenced or inspired ‘Blame’ as we are all listening to so many different artists at any one time… but I’ll do my best. I know for a fact myself and Rob were listening to A LOT of Nothing But Thieves, Don Broco, Rival Sons, The Hunna and Bring Me Horizon at the time of writing this one though so I’ll focus on those.”

Bring Me The Horizon – Mantra | Listen
Straight from the get-go we wanted this song to smack you in the face… hence the “dudu DUH DUH DUH” drum intro. Much like Bring Me the Horizon’s ‘Mantra‘ which was huge at the time of writing this, It starts with fast-paced drum rolls then breaks into a catchy riff.

The Hunna – Flickin’ Your Hair | Listen
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want my rhythm guitar parts to resemble The Hunna’s chuggy head-nodder ‘Flickin Your Hair‘ I had the ‘Dare’ album on repeat at the time of penning ‘Blame’ so it could be any number of their bangers the title track ‘Dare’ itself has so many chuggy qualities.

Rival Sons – Shooting Stars | Listen
It was actually a huge year for rock music/guitar bands as one of our all-time faves Rival Sons released ‘Feral Roots’, Rob and I got tickets to see them live within a few hours of the boys releasing the tour poster. ‘Shooting Stars‘ is a huge anthemic track vocally I’d love to think that our chorus in ‘Blame’ would have the same contagious effect.

Don Broco – Pretty | Listen
The drums in ‘Pretty‘ by Don Broco are such a driving force in this track in particular. We wanted the drums in ‘Blame’ to sound HUGE. If you listen carefully you can hear the handclaps, extra snare hits and cowbell put in my our masters of production Ady Hall & Lee McCarthy at Sugarhouse. They really helped get the best out of us for this track and we’re looking forward to working with them again in the near future.

Nothing But Thieves – Amsterdam | Listen
‘Amsterdam’ by Nothing But Thieves was at the very top our workout playlist, along with many on the ‘Broken Machine‘ album, the guitar tones in ‘Live Like Animals‘ and crazily high energy of ‘Amsterdam’ definitely played a huge part in how we end ‘Blame’ on an instrumental high. See if you can hear all the layers of our Robbies shredding on lead guitar.
