Low Lying Sun | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Did You Mean It?’

Low Lying Sun have released their new EP ‘Did You Mean It?’.

The release is out now via LAB Records and marks the band’s second EP.

Speaking about the new EP, the band said: “‘Did You Mean It?’ feels like the second chapter of the story told in our debut EP ‘Hymn To Say Goodbye’. The songs on both were written around the same time and share a lot of the same characteristics. Both are quite ambitious in the sound they try to achieve and both are very introspective. Although, with Brother, the narrative shifts slightly with a more objective viewpoint, before returning to the very personal “I’ll dig for you, brother”. We, as a band, love alternative versions of songs and Why Did It End In Love is almost like a cover of our own song. We recorded, produced and mixed the track ourselves and it allowed us to show a slightly different side to the music that we’ve released so far.”

To celebrate their EP release, Low Lying Sun shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Did You Mean It?’.

Big Thief – Not | Listen via Spotify
The end of the song is just brilliant, with the frenetic guitars and roomy drum solo. The band play with so much intensity and expression.

Blake Mills – History of My Life | Listen via Spotify
The lyrics just get me every time, the way they plead with the listener. The soundscape at the end is stunning as well.

Flyte – Under the Skin | Listen via Spotify
The constant build of the song finally resolves into a euphoric release of tension.

LCD Soundsystem – Emotional Haircut | Listen via Spotify
Such an iconic intro…it’s just so exciting and just entices you into the song.

DANGERDOOM – A.T.H.F. (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) | Listen via Spotify
We recorded the EP up on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. We all drove up in Noah’s truck which automatically connected to his phone and started playing songs alphabetically. Across our two-day journey, we must have heard the intro to this song a hundred times. Good song when you get past the first 5 seconds!
