Lucia & The Best Boys | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Eternity’

Lucia & The Best Boys highly anticipated EP ‘Eternity’ is out now.

Focusing on isolation and the trappings of society, the EP was recorded in LA with producer Carlos De La Garza (Paramore, Wolf Alice, Best Coast).

The ‘Eternity EP’ features three-band new tracks from the band with lead single ‘City Of Angels’ live favourite ‘Flames’ and moving ‘My God’, alongside fan and radio favourite ‘Good Girls Do Bad Things‘.

At the end of 2019, we were lucky enough to be at Jack Saunders Hop Scotch gig at King Tut’s in Glasgow to catch the band in their new form and can confirm they completely stole the night with an incredible retro-infused set that was bursting at the seams. Lucia & The Best Boys are a band to watch out for, continually guaranteeing one of the best live sets you’ll ever see.

To celebrate their EP release, we caught up with Lucia Fairfull to find out more about the influence behind the EP.

Cherry Glazerr – Daddi | Listen via Spotify
This song is insane, it feels like there is so much to it but it’s actually beautifully simple and still super gritty. I got into listening to Cherry Glazerr around 2/3 years ago and it really helped when we realised that Carlos, who produced our EP, has worked with them a lot because I was listening to them a lot around the time of writing the EP. Something about the sound of Cherry Glazerr makes me feel powerful and gives me drive.

The Kills – Echo Home | Listen via Spotify
The Kills have been one of my favourite bands for a long time. I love a lot of their heavier/trashy sounding guitars, but to hear them do something a bit more stripped-back was refreshing. One thing I’ve always wondered is if I was allowed to experiment, and if people would still know it was us, I thought about that a lot when ‘My God’ was written but then hearing this made me want to write more like that and be even more truthful and raw with lyrics.

Madonna – Burning Up | Listen via Spotify
I don’t think I could even keep up with how much Madonna I listened to last year. I always loved her but I only really dug deep into her older music over the last couple of years. She’s one of the main inspirations for me wanting to experiment a bit with this EP and make something a bit more fun, like ‘Good Girls Do Bad Things’, even though it’s still sending a serious message.

New Order – Age of Consent | Listen via Spotify
When we were in the studio with tracks like ‘Good Girls’ & ‘City of Angels’ in particular, one track that we were able to take additional inspiration from was ‘Age of Consent’ by New Order. We really loved the repetitive, chopped up hi-hat rhythms and jangly basslines that were layered with chorus and wanted to recreate that in our own way.

Nick Cave – Girl in Amber | Listen via Spotify
This is one of the most emotional albums I have ever become attached to. It really inspired me with ‘My God’ and ‘Flames’ to give not only the lyrics but the production as much feeling as possible, like with the Children and e-bow on the outro giving it an almost angelic feel.
