Memorial have released their debut self-titled album.

The new album speaks of love, longing and loneliness with a sense of intimacy, embracing that closeness and sharing secrets with you like a close friend.

To celebrate their album release, Memorial shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Memorial’.

Leonard Cohen – Famous Blue Raincoat | Listen via Spotify
This song is just perfection. We use this song as a final milestone, if we ever write one this good we can phone it in and die.

Hovvdy – Blindsided | Listen via Spotify
Possibly our favourite song of the last few years, this baby has it all; great lyrics, awesome melody & the tastiest production around! The whole thing feels like an old happy memory. It’s a true masterpiece.

Lomelda – Brazos River | Listen via Spotify
Lomelda is a big influence! All of our favourite artists have such an intense vocal feel but the way this song moves in such unexpected and beautiful ways is a real treat! When we create melodies we almost have a Lomelda test, like how far can we go, keep your ears on their toes…

Pinegrove – Rings | Listen via Spotify
Pinegrove are true wizards in their field & have gained a huge place in our hearts over the years! ‘Rings’ has some of the best lyrics ever and the performance is just breathtaking! Evan is so good at creating beautiful imagery alongside a very relatable internal monologue! We draw so much inspiration from this!

Simon & Garfunkel – Wednesday Morning 3am | Listen via Spotify
This song is a real indication of perfect harmony, the changes and the way it moves like water has made it a really special song to us. We’ve tried to sing it together so many times but never fully get it right! The thought, time, and expertise that must have gone into this song is extremely inspirational!
