Mistine has released her new album ‘i guess this is where we’re at’.
The 11 track release blends indie pop and alternative sounds, exploring themes of sustainability and environmentalism.
Speaking of the album, she said: “I am constantly thinking about our environment. I really tired to incorporate ways to tell the story of what our world is going through in the climate crisis without explicitly saying it in the song – I began exploring thinking about our planet as a friend or relationship and how each member would feel though this distraction and climate change – how we’re trying to preserve what we have left – as if I were trying to salvage a relationship with a loved one.”
To celebrate the album release, Mistine shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘i guess this is where we’re at’.
Role Model – Look At That Women
There was something so smooth about this song, the ease of the instruments and the mid tones that just blend together. I wanted to take inspo from the easy listening of this song and incorporate it to the overall vine of the album.
Maggie Rogers – Alaska
Not only an amazing song, but I love how she incorporates nature elements and locations into her lyric writing. I’m always super inspired by her writing style and overall I think that it is influenced by take on an album that includes elements of environmentalism.
Taylor Swift – All You Had To Do Was Stay
This song has an ongoing pulse that keeps me so interested. I love the feeling of constantly moving forward. I really wanted to take elements of this feel in ‘just for you’, a more pop heavy song that make me feel like I’m on a run or in the car.
Ava Max – Kings & Queens
I was so inspired by the harmonised guitar lines in the song. I just loved the effect. My guitar solo in ‘just for you’ echos this vibe.
Nirvana – Elliana
I really love how this song feels like an immersive landscape. The sounds just feel like a pool I want to jump into. There’s such a wide wall of sound that is so satisfying. This vibe definitely ‘inspired (of u)’ and helped me to think about a bigger sound to incorporate into my lil indie synth world.
