Nadia Sheikh | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Get Away’

Nadia Sheikh is kickstarting the new decade full-force.

Supporting Stereophonics across Europe and the UK with her 3-piece band in tow, the indie rockers have started their year with a mammoth support slot and hit single release with new track ‘Get Away’ – and it’s only the first week of February!

Speaking of her new single, Nadia said: “’Get Away’ is a song about the feeling of helplessness you have when you see what’s going on in the world and wanting to do something but realising it’s not in your hands.”

To celebrate the single release, Nadia squeezed time out of her busy schedule to share with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Get Away’.

Catfish and the Bottlemen – Cocoon | Listen via Spotify
This was definitely a song we had in mind when recording the track cause of the power of it. It’s very in your face, but melodic at the same time. A lot of cymbal work!

Coldplay – Politik | Listen via Spotify
I love the album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ by Coldplay. I think this track also has the power, especially in the intro, that we were trying to get with ‘Get Away’. It then contrasts with the more chilled out vocals in the verse, it’s like a rollercoaster.

Kings of Leon – Supersoaker | Listen via Spotify
The bass and drum work on this is very driving in the verses which is something we wanted to achieve with ‘Get Away’ too, although the guitars in their verse are much more strummy than on ‘Get Away.’ My strums are more spaced out on the first verse and the second verse is riff-based, it has that feeling!

The Beatles – A Day In The Life | Listen via Spotify
I grew up listening to The Beatles and they’re one of my biggest influences. I wouldn’t say it would be a direct influence to ‘Get Away’ but I’m sure it’s got something of it somewhere down the line. The lyrics are quite observational, like an internal reflection on the world’s happenings.

Foo Fighters – Learn To Fly | Listen via Spotify
I was listening to a lot of Foo Fighters at the time I wrote ‘Get Away’. The guitar-heavy and powerful intro versus the more chilled out verses and how the track develops and builds is great!
