PBSM | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Rainbow Girl’

Copenhagen duo PBSM have released their new EP ‘Rainbow Girl’.

The alt-rockers recently established their own studio in Copenhagen to work with drummer Lasse Herbst on the EP, re-recording several teams adding layers to compositions before stripping them back to create an addictively hazy 80’s fuelled 5 track release.

Speaking of the EP’s influence, the band explained: “I guess we are an inspirational mess haha! Working out of our studio in Copenhagen we seek inspirations everywhere – lately, we’ve been digging a lot of afrobeat, 70’s african disco and obscure roots – apart from our favourite go-to period: the 80’s UK music scene! Anyways, working on the Rainbow Girl EP summer/autumn 2018 this collection of tracks probably played a huge role in writing the songs and setting the scene/moods for the songs.”

Now, let’s delve into 5 (or shall we say 7…) tracks that influenced the band’s latest EP release!

Viagra Boys – Down in the Basement
We know that somehow and somewhere there’s room for a saxophone in our music. Until then, we listen to how Viagra Boys manage to fit it in.

Don Henley – Boys of Summer
It’s summer all year round – so always a huge inspiration to listen to this track. This and Rick Springfield.

Beastie Boys – Sabotage
We always kick off our sessions with this track. If recording during the weekend we might add ‘You Gotta Fight For Your Right to Party’ to the mix.

H.E.R. – Feel A Way and/or Cautious Clay – Cold War
We are huge fans of the density, organic and (at times) minimal approach in beats, r&b and neo-soul. The nighttime soundscapes, the vocal flow and how these are being showcased and produced here. Not sure how it translates to our music, but a heavy influence for sure!

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Spread Your Love’ and/or Madonna – Like A Prayer
The world needs rock ‘n’ roll and this is it. The energy, the build, the message. Share the fun…
