Preview | Edinburgh Hogmanay 2016

From a ceilidh on the Royal Mile to cabaret on the Mound, the programme for Edinburgh Hogmanay 2016 has been revealed.

Music

The Concert in the Gardens has already broken records, with tickets selling out in just ten days with a triple Scottish bill including headliners Biffy Clyro, supported by Idlewild and Honeyblood.

This year’s Waverley Stage will be headlined by Maximo Park as the band celebrates the tenth anniversary of their debut album ‘A Certain Trigger’. The band will be joined by punk duo Slaves following their November UK tour and Glasgow’s funk five-piece White.

The Castle Stage will offer a Scottish knees-up with Celtic bands including Rura, Peatbog Faeries and a 25th anniversary performance from Shooglenifty taking to the stage.

DJ sets will dominate the Frederick Stage with BBC 6 Music Craig Charles Funk ‘n’ Soul Show alongside local DJ Simon Hodge while VJ’s Buttercup and Pixels will create the visuals for the screens throughout the Street Party arena.

The Mound Stage will feature cabaret performers from Fringe hit show Guilty Pleasures combining disco dancing, performers and audience interaction to get crowds dancing in the streets.

The yearly keilidh will move from the mound to a new larger location on the Royal Mile. The UK’s biggest outdoor ceilidh will feature two stages featuring live performances from Cask Strength Ceilidh Band, Whisky Kiss, Ceilidhonia and Sporran Again.

Entertainment

This year’s street party will also feature expanded entertainment zones and new food and drink villages. Breakout areas for a bite to eat will include Market Street, the West End of Princes Street, the Mound precinct and East Princes Street Gardens, which will feature retailers from Edinburgh’s Christmas markets.

To bring in the bells, there will be countdown firework displays on the hour from 9pm to the Midnight Moment display from Edinburgh Castle.

All music stages will be live from 9pm to 1am, but Street Party goers can begin their night from 7pm.
