Preview | Edinburgh’s Greatest Hits Walking Tours

You’ll soon be able to delve into the details of Edinburgh’s music scene thanks to a new walking tour in the capital.

Led by music journalists and musicians, the 90-minute tours will tell the story of Edinburgh’s music heritage, dating back to the People’s Festival Ceilidh in 1951 to the present day with bands including the Mercury Award-winning hip hop trio Young Fathers from Leith.

Flowing with stories and anecdotes, the tour will tell the tales of artists who have stayed, played and made music in Edinburgh across a wide variety of genres including jazz, rock and pop.

From home-grown talent to chart-topping bands, the tour features stories of bands including The Bay City Rollers, Proclaimers and Garbage to The Clash and Dizzy Gillespie while visiting some of Edinburgh’s music hotspots from Sandy Bells to Sneaky Pete’s.

Inspired by the Rip It Up – The Story of Scottish Pop exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland, every guest on the tour will receive a code to receive £5 discount on entry to the Museum’s exhibition which opens on Friday 22nd June.

The 90-minute tours will run every Saturday from June 16th at 1pm and 3pm, with additional 11am tours taking place throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on Saturday 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th of August.

Tours will launch from the William Chambers monument outside the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street and tickets for the tour cost £14 (£12 concession).

Tickets can be purchased in advance online via GlasgowMusicCityTours.com/Edinburgh.
