BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend will travel to Londonderry, Northern Ireland this year.

The annual free music event will take place on 24 to 26 May to help the city celebrate its status as UK City Of Culture for 2013.

Olly Murs and Two Door Cinema Club are the first acts who have been confirmed for the shows.

The location was revealed by BBC Radio 1 breakfast show presenter Nick Grimshaw today, as he broadcasted live from Londonderry.

Jason Carter, the BBC’s Head of Live Music and Events, Popular Music, said: “The last Big Weekend in the city in 2004 was a legendary music moment in Northern Ireland and it’s so great to be able to return with an even bigger show second time around.”

Headline artists and a full line-up will be confirmed in the coming weeks and months.

Details on how to apply for tickets will also be released soon.
