It’s been less than one year since Rosborough released his debut single ‘Burn Blue’.
Awarded ‘Single of The Fortnight’ by Hot Press magazine, ‘Burn Blue‘ was voted the Daily Mirror Ulster’s number one track of 2017, with radio support from every major Irish network.
The Irish newcomer’s UK debut single ‘Another Lesson’ quickly went onto receive radio support from Radio 1, Radio X and 6 Music and following his single success, Rosborough launched into 2018 with a headline Irish tour before heading to the UK for a tour alongside Neon Waltz. Rounding off his summer with festival slots including Sound City and Neighbourhood Weekender, he’s most recently been announced as the main support for Seafret’s forthcoming UK tour.
Now, following his recent signing to Ignition Records, Rosborough has unveiled his latest track ‘Fall To Earth’.
Speaking of the single, Rosborough explained: “’Fall To Earth’ is a song about finding yourself in conflict. Figuratively and literally. A conflict which, had you the choice or wherewithal to realise its formation, you would never consciously let yourself engage in. But you are there, even though you can see its ridiculousness and the manipulation and misinformation that got you to this point.”
To celebrate the single release, Rosborough shared with us five tracks that shaped the single.
Tom Waits – Hell Broke Luce
This track has more power than anything I’ve ever heard. The punch of every word that’s said. Lyrically, this definitely shared the atmosphere of what I was trying to say. On a more personal level as a listener, the way this song is arranged, through the instrumentation, you get that feeling of being in the machine, and how that system is almost an echo of the thinking of the character.
Stevie Wonder – Master blaster
I just love the groove on this, I think you can hear traces of it in the bridge of ‘Fall To Earth’. The arrangement is all about tension and release, the verses pent up and the chorus relieving. It’s a very simple but powerful songwriting technique.
The Clash – London Calling
I’ve always loved the guitar sound on this. It’s like a call to arms. I wanted big guitars for ‘Fall To Earth’. Big loud guitar music is what got me hooked on being a musician and the attitude that goes with it. Not afraid to raise a ruckus, and completely uninterested in mincing words. Guitar music these days has lost that. I don’t know why, but a lot of it is about love songs or getting wasted. This song is about looking around and seeing the world for what it is.
The Raconteurs – Broken Boy Soldier
I love the darkness in this, I really wanted to incorporate that atmosphere. It’s almost frightening. The little lead guitar part just sneaks around.
Nina Simone – Sinnerman
I’ve been obsessed with this track since I was very little. Its got the undeniable apocalyptic feel and that underlying current of letting go to an over-watcher. This was a theme I was working through when writing the ‘Fall To Earth’ lyrics.
