Poet Warrior Sam Way returns with ‘Hard Feelings’, a ghostly cello-driven track about the make or break point in a relationship.
Sam’s dulcet tones and the soaring harmonies from guest vocalist Fleur make this track a real triumph.
Speaking of the single, Sam explained: “‘Hard Feelings’ was born in a co-writing session with fellow artist, Ellie Rose. Co-writes are funny things, sometimes you find a flow, sometimes you don’t, but we both found a common ground in speaking frankly about the challenges of relationships and ‘Hard Feelings’ was born.”
To celebrate the single’s release, Sam shared with us five tracks that shaped the single.
The Divine Comedy – Our Mutual Friend
The strings and the storytelling here have a lot of parallels with ‘Hard Feelings’, the drama given by the driving strings too. This is an epic tune!
The Irrepressibles Two Men in Love
I just love this band and this song. It’s so full of tenderness and towards the end, a climactic release, is just what great songs are made of, it’s up there as a massive influence.
SOHN- Red Lines
Melancholy, heartfelt and modern, this was a reference track at one point in the early days of the song’s development. Also a tune!
Seavera – Caving
I’ve had this tune on my playlist for the longest time now, always a rewarding listen.
Ben Abraham – She
Ben’s vocals and storytelling are a masterclass in this tune, full of emotion, it hooks you right in from the off.
Having already garnered a sizeable fan base in Turkey, London based Sam Way now looks to replicate that success in his home country.
With the recent release of ‘Hard Feelings’, as well as confirmation that new music is already in the works, it’s clear that things are about to get very exciting for this expressive and soulful singer-songwriter!
