Sisteray | 5 tracks that influenced ‘All Boys Club’

Sisteray have released their new single ‘All Boys Club’.

Produced and mixed by Rhys Downing (Pete Doherty, A$AP Rocky) at That Sound Studio, the single spotlights society and politics with the entity of the ‘All Boys Club’.

Speaking of the single, frontman Niall Rowan explained the track was influenced by ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, with quotes from the book including ‘If we do something over and over, it becomes normal,’ reflecting on our society and politics.

To delve into the sounds behind the politically-charged single, we caught up with lead guitarist Daniel Connolly to discover 5 tracks that influenced the release.

The George Baker Selection – Little Green Bag | Listen
From a kid I’ve always been obsessed with Tarantino films. I love the dialogue between the characters, their quirks, the styles and the music always compliments moments in his films perfectly. When ‘Little Green Bag’ comes on for the opening credits of ‘Reservoir Dogs’, following on from the Uber-cool opening scene, it complements the moment perfectly. Everything about the song makes you feel something, from the reverb on that first snare hit to that funky bassline and the joyous chorus, the tune has it all and has always been something I’ve aimed for when writing new songs.

Fleetwood Mac – Dreams | Listen
This is just one of those faultless, timeless classics. It sounds like it could’ve been mixed today, on a modern-day computer through Pro Tools or something. It has emotion, amazing arrangement, fantastic playing, extraordinary vocals. The way the backing vocals drift in and out to make certain moments sound absolutely huge is definitely something we’ve transferred to even a punk rock tune like ‘All Boys Club’.

The Clash – Death or Glory | Listen
This song I’ve got tattooed on my arm! The furious guitars, aggressive vocals, crunching drums beautifully complement the lyrics that have a great message. This is always something we’ve tried to relay in our tunes.

Pixies – Monkey Gone To Heaven | Listen
Pixies are one of my all-time favourite bands. They weren’t afraid to write about any type of subject and they did it in their own unique, surreal way. This tune’s a perfect example of that. Surrealist lyrics about an important subject matter (in this case climate change) mixed with big crunching guitars and aggressive vocals. You can definitely hear some of that influence in ‘All Boys Club’.

Bob Marley – Redemption Song | Listen
Marley proved you can be politically driven, a pop star and an incredible musician all at the same time. He was an absolute legend and all-round icon, whilst not being afraid to wear his politics on his sleeve. That’s something that’s certainly influenced us.
