Slaney Bay have released their new EP ‘The Long Way Home’.
Speaking of their EP, the band said: “‘The Long Way Home’ details a night from start to finish. From the extroverted highs of palpable romantic tension with your crush at a party, to the loneliness of the solitary journey home. To us, ‘the long way home’ represents us experiencing the whole range of human emotion. We go through vulnerability, exhilaration and existential dread all in one night. But we arrive home with a better understanding of ourselves. While a shortcut may have been easier, the long way home taught us valuable lessons.”
To celebrate the release, the band shared 5 tracks that influenced ‘The Long Way Home’.
Don Broco – Fire
Jonny: I was really drawn to the intro drum beat in ‘Fire’, steady momentum with punchy, confident accents. It felt like the perfect way to kick off ‘The Long Way Home’. The drums reminded me of feet hitting the pavement with intent, that rhythmic, determined stride you take when a long journey’s just begun.
Pat Benatar – Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Cait: ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ was a big inspiration for ‘Break My Heart (For Fun)’. We had it on in the car to the studio, and I loved how singing along turns into a performance. You automatically pick up Pat’s attitude. It’s got that charm — taking heartbreak on the chin. On the EP, this is the reckless chapter — young, carefree, and caught up in the moment without thinking of the consequences.
Interpol – Obstacle 1
Will: The jagged, stabby guitars in ‘Obstacle 1’ really shaped the feel of ‘Countdown’. That sharp energy helped us keep it tense but still danceable. Since it’s set at a house party, those guitars feel like your crush walking in – everything’s loud, but suddenly, they’re all you notice.
Wolf Alice – Giant Peach
Joey: ‘Giant Peach’ by Wolf Alice inspired the post-chorus bridge in Missed Your Call. We loved how the vocals float over crunchy guitars, building slowly with emotion. The bridge captures the tension and hope in that uncertain moment — when you’re trying to reach someone over the phone but don’t know if they’ll pick up.
The Killers – Exitlude
Cait: ‘Exitlude’ by The Killers, from ‘Sam’s Town’, inspired ‘Roll the Credits’. Growing up, I’d listen to that album on long car rides, and ‘Exitlude’ always felt like the perfect goodbye. For ‘Roll the Credits’, we added lyrics from the intro song, ‘The Long Way Home’, as crowd vocals at the end — it feels like the whole band coming together to say farewell and look back on everything that’s happened in the EP.
