SPILT | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Lalka’

SPILT have shared the influence behind their recent single ‘Lalka’.

The psychedelic rockers from Runcorn released the new track ahead of their forthcoming festival slots, including Tramlines and Riv Fest.

To celebrate the single release, the band have shared with us five singles that influenced ‘LALKA’.

Smile / Distortion – Yak
Yak influenced the guitar tones and the way it explodes, as well as how the effects make your head bend which was influenced by influenced by their song ‘Distortion’. I’d pick the song ‘Smile’ for the Tarantino-styled clean guitar into the heavy distortion… I picked two at once, is that cheating? (Mo)

Countrysleaze – Goat Girl
This track influenced the lyrics in ‘Lalka’ as I was attracted to the attitude they put out and the character they described reminded me of the person ‘Lalka’ is about. (Mo)

Cowgirl in the Sand – Neil Young
I’ve been listening to a lot of Neil young recently. The song was more black and white with its distortion when we first wrote it a few years ago. By the time it got to recording it, the sounds and influence towards ‘Lalka’ changed more and more over time – more to fit the direction and sound we are looking to go for moving forward. (Mo)

Desert Raven – Jonathan Wilson
To be honest, ‘Lalka’ was written way before I was into stuff like this, but it’s what I was listening to while we were in the studio. It was actually a completely different song that was very punky, with FIDLAR kinda vibes then it slowly turned into what ‘Lalka’ is now with all the distorted guitars and bass.

A Song For the Dead – Queens of the Stone Age
For the drums, the fast bit at the end was probably influenced by this. I’d probably say it’s my favourite song right now. It’s also a little homage to Dave Grohl as well probably. The rest of the track was probably influenced by Jon Bonham’s overall style. Proper cliche answer that innit! (Josh)
