Suki Summer has released her new single ‘Nothing At All’.
Suki Summer is a rising star in the world of music who’s carving out a bold space where gritty rock meets 80s synth vibes. With her unique sound and fearless approach to songwriting, Suki creates music that’s equal parts nostalgic and daring, resonating with listeners who crave authenticity and empowerment.
Her latest single, ‘Nothing At All’ showcases this signature style. It’s a track that masterfully blends the raw energy of 70s rock with the electrifying synths of the 80s, delivering a fresh take on modern relationships that’s unapologetic and deeply relatable.
Reflecting on the single, Suki said: “This song is about having fun in a casual relationship, without guilt or apology. There’s still so much stigma around women’s attitudes toward sex, and I wanted to write something that says, ‘I can do what I want with my body, and I don’t owe you anything more. If you don’t like that, too bad—I’m not going to apologize.’ After all, why should men have all the fun?”
To celebrate her single release, Suki Summer shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Nothing At All’.
Blondie – Call Me
‘Call Me’ by Blondie was a huge inspiration to me when writing ‘Nothing At All’ because of its blend of upbeat energy and unapologetic confidence. The way in which the song mixes pop whilst still retaining the grit of a 70’s rock song made me want to capture a similar tone of carefree fun and self-assurance in my own music. The lyrics which are playful and slightly rebellious inspired me to explore themes of independence, desire and lust in a way that is catchy and lighthearted whilst still tackling more intricate social commentary. The driving beat and catchy hooks inspired me to create something with a similar danceable beat. A song that makes you want to move whilst still feeling empowering and full of personality.
Miley Cyrus – Gimme What I Want
Miley Cyrus’s ‘Gimme What I Want’ inspired me because of its bold, unapologetic energy and in-your-face attitude. The track’s seductive, fierce tone and confident lyrics made me want to create something with a similar embodiment of raw desire and power. The combination of edgy production and Miley’s rebellious vocal delivery pushed me to dive deeper into themes of self-empowerment, taking control and unapologetically getting what you want. There is a certain fearlessness in the lyricism of the song which inspired me to write a song that’s liberating, one that reflects being completely unafraid to say exactly what you mean. The bold sensuality and the way in which Miley handles themes of sex and casual relationships pushed me to be less afraid of exploring those same themes in my own music.
Led Zeppelin – Heartbreaker
Having grown up listening to my parents’ extensive vinyl collection, Led Zeppelin was the soundtrack to many of my childhood years. In particular this song has always been a favourite of mine. The gritty guitar riffs and electrifying energy of this song inspired me to lean into a 70’s sound when deciding on the style the music for ‘Nothing At All’ would have. Every note in this song feels deliberate and it made me want to create something that grabs you right from the start and doesn’t let go. The song’s unyielding energy, shifting between heavy, hard-hitting grooves and explosive solos, showed me how powerful dynamics can be in maintaining intensity and excitement. It challenged me to write a piece with a similar kind of sonic tension—one that builds and releases in waves, keeping the listener on edge but always moving forward. The interplay between the rhythm section and that piercing, unforgettable guitar sound made me want to capture that same sense of controlled chaos—raw, unfiltered rock that feels both electrifying and timeless.
Aretha Franklin – Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves
Aretha Franklin’s ‘Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves’ inspired me to write a song with a similar vibe because of its bold empowering message and the infectious energy that runs throughout the song. The song’s celebration of female independence and strength paired with its strong, upbeat groove made me want to create something that captures that same confidence. Aretha’s powerful vocals and the song’s unapologetic tone encouraged me to write lyrics that not only reflect the strength of women but also their ability to take charge of their own lives, on their own terms.
Pink – So What
Pink’s ‘So What’ inspired me to write a song with a similar fierce attitude, rebellious energy and unapologetic confidence. The song’s raw un-bothered lyrics inspired me to capture something that’s both cathartic and empowering, where the music matched the defiant message. P!nk’s ability to take personal struggles and transform them into an anthem of strength and independence inspired me to write a song which channels that same spirit. ‘So What’ is all about picking yourself up after life throws you a shit hand and I wanted to create a song with the same resilient ‘I don’t care what you think’ attitude in a track that feels raw, bold and fun. The blend of attitude, humour and emotional honesty in P!nk’s delivery made me want to create a song that encourages listeners to embrace their inner badass and own their autonomy, no matter what.
