Track of the Day | Kohla – _Gorgeous

Kohla has released her new single ‘_Gorgeous’.

The fourth track comes ahead of Kohla’s (aka Rachel Alice Johnson) debut live show at Sneaky Pete’s, which sold out 6 weeks in advance.

Speaking of the single, Rachel explained: “‘_Gorgeous’ takes influence from 90’s trip-hop I was listening to earlier this year – Moby, Tricky, Massive Attack, combined with elements of contemporary alternative pop / R&B such as Grimes and Janelle Monae. I wanted it to contrast with the tracks I’ve released so far, which have been pretty moody, and instead, take an upbeat and lighter approach. It’s the fourth song I’ve released in under a year, and naturally, my production and songwriting skills have improved, so in the studio we were more relaxed and experimental with sounds, such as strings, xylophone and electric guitar. The track also has a woozy-hypnotic atmosphere which was perfect to layer melodies and harmonies with, which is my favourite part of writing/production.”

‘_Gorgeous’ marks Kohla’s second appearance as TOTD on LMLL with her sultry sound winning us over time and time again. Starting in her signature mesmerising style, the single takes an upbeat twist to the chorus with sing-along ready lyrics, as it evidently reflects her Moby influence, soaked in an addictively intriguing soundscape.
