Born and raised in San Diego, Trevor Drury spent his childhood and adolescent years honing his songwriting and musicianship.

It when he was living in New York that he began to yearn for the musical rigour that an intuition could provide and so he applied to BIMM where he currently studies.

His most recent release ‘Head On The Tracks’, an Alt-Pop track peppered with Indie, Rock, and Jazz elements, highlights his propensity for beautifully robust piano riffs and introspectively riddle-like lyrics.

To celebrate the release of ‘Head On The Tracks’ Trevor shared five tracks that influenced the single.

Massive Attack — TearDrop
I’ve always loved the darkness of this song. It has such a cool sound. So many layers of the song are filled with this gritty dark feel. I tend to see songs as colours so when writing ‘Head on the Tracks’ I admired the blacks, greys and hazels this song has.

Amber Run — I Found
This song has such a great purity to it that I’ve always admired. It’s a good example of the layers of softness I put in ‘Head on the Tracks’. It’s a beautiful song that can be twisted and changed into other forms.

Django Django — Giant
This song is so cool, the piano is amazing and all the layers are so intense and wide. I love how it develops and wanted to have that kind of movement in ‘Head on the Tracks’, building gradually into this big climax.

Alt J — Nara
I heard this song and was immediately grabbed by it. I love the icy ping it’s got. I’m not sure how to describe that, but it has this cool, calm, yet gritty sound. There’s so much to listen for and so many great hooks woven throughout the song. I wanted ‘Head on the Tracks’ to have that kind of feeling.

Cinematic Orchestra— To Build A Home
This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Before ‘Head on the Tracks’ became a produced song, when I was writing it had a much more organic feeling. I think this song is the one I heard right before I began writing the single.
