Vansleep have released their new EP ‘You Should Have Said Something’.
The new EP from the Aberdeen indie rockers was released at the end of 2020 presenting a trio of tracks that are instantly addictive.
Easily showcasing the band’s indie versatility, they immediately caught our attention and we’ll be keeping a close eye on the band in 2021!
To celebrate the EP release, we caught up with the band to discover 5 tracks that influenced ‘You Should Have Said Something’.
Jaws – End Of The World | Listen via Spotify
I (Kyle) am quite a big Jaws fan and find a lot of inspiration in their music. With their fairly dark atmospheric style of indie rock and low registered vocals, I feel ‘End Of The World’ draws quite a lot of parallels to ‘Stargazer’ and ‘Chambers’ so feel its a good one to kick off with!
Biffy Clyro – Mountains | Listen via Spotify
We are all pretty big Biffy Clyro fans, and their music has played a very big part in all of our musical abilities I feel (Kyle). Their songs have almost soundtracked my life at times and looking at ‘Acid Weather’ I get a bit of a ‘Mountains’ vibe. Maybe because the start is quite vulnerable sounding and melodic but then builds to a much bigger “anthemic” sort of sound.
Foals – The Runner | Listen via Spotify
We are choosing ‘The Runner’ by Foals also. The sense of urgency the song has is definitely something we wanted all of the songs to have in their own way, but ‘Chambers’ especially. The constantly progressing feeling is something that we can relate ‘Chambers’ to for sure in terms of the subconscious influence involved.
Interpol – Fine Mess | Listen via Spotify
We thought it only fitting to choose an interpol song as one that really inspired this EP. We have looked at really diving into a post punk sound recently and ‘Fine Mess’ is a perfect choice.
Editors – Munich | Listen via Spotify
‘Munich’ by Editors was a song that played a big part in the creation of ‘Chambers’ at one point. Ideas were floating around in the studio around the guitar parts and with our producer we decided to try something similar in the chorus. It was definitely after that experience when we all started to look at incorporating a bit of post punk influences to really help darken the sound!
