Amongst a sea of R&B artists Ne-Yo always has stood out as being a cut above everyone else. Not only is he an artist, but he is a songwriter too. His tracks always had that extra soulful touch and that continues on this album.

On his new album ‘R.E.D’ it is business as usual, although since he has teamed up with Calvin Harris his sound has crossed the Atlantic to be re-invented by Harris and fellow Europeans Stargate, who work their magic on ‘Forever Now’ – one of the most upbeat tracks on the album. Taking a nod from Swedish House Mafia, Stargate take Ne-Yo on to the European dance floors. The track flows nicely into ‘Lets Go’ which features the aforementioned Calvin Harris.

Both of these tracks along with ‘Shut Me Down’ and ‘Unconditional’ are completely different from what else appears on the album which tends to be Ne-Yo’s typical soulful R&B tracks.

Opening track ‘Cracks In Mr Perfect’ lyrically tells is an apology for “chasing women when I should be recording”, he may be the perfect ladies man but on this album he has made another sublime soulful album.

A release worth the wait.
