A Rocket To The Moon

A Rocket To The Moon

We caught up with A Rocket To The Moon before their support slot with Mayday Parade at the Glasgow Garage on May 24th.

After stealing another support band’s dressing room (sorry Blitz Kids!) and meeting the surprisingly quiet band, we caught up with A Rocket To The Moon about their feelings about the UK, the differences they have felt from the US and UK audiences and the question that all fans wanted to know – if they would ever do a headline UK tour any time soon!

It’s your first time in the UK as a band, how are you finding it?

Andrew – Fantastic!

Nick – Yeah it’s been awesome.

Eric- I fancy it….

Andrew – It’s been awesome, it’s really exciting for us that we get to be over here with our friends in Mayday….

Nick – And our new friends in We Are The In Crowd and Blitz Kids.

Eric – Yeah it’s awesome, we love it!

What has been the best date on the tour so far?

Eric – I really liked Cardiff!

Andrew- Yeah, Cardiff was fun!

Eric- It was a cool town and the show was fun.

Andrew – The first show in Northampton was really fun. There was a big group of kids singing along the whole time right at the corner in the front, freaking out and that made us feel at home because of it being our first show here, it was a nice feeling!

Eric – Yeovil was good too.

Andrew – They’re all good!

What is your favourite song on this tour’s set list to play live?

Eric – At the moment, I still like playing ‘She’s Killing Me’ a lot.

Andrew- I think it might be my favourite as well…

Eric – Just make it easy and agree – we all think ‘She’s Killing Me’.

How would you sum up what to expect from the band live in just 3 words?

Nick – Um….*long pause*

Andrew – Eric James Halvorsen (bassist in the band).

Nick – Yeah, that’s what you’ll see a lot of Eric James Halvorsen..

Andrew – High Voltage Rock!

Eric – Erm…High Voltage Rock – there you go!

Do you find there has been a big difference between UK and US audience reception?

Andrew – Yeah cause it’s our first time here, so we’re starting from scratch here. We just came off our first full US headline tour which was amazing and what the band’s been working towards for several years, so it was a real crowning achievement. It felt really good, we felt like ‘Oh we’re playing all these shows and everybody’s here for us!’ and now we’ve gotta really work our way up again here, get our name out there and be really visible and talk to as many people as we can! It’s good, it’s a humbling experience any time you go to a new country you have to start over, it reminds you what’s important about what you’re doing and how much work there is left to do!

Personally, what are your favourite songs at the moment?

Eric – There’s a brother sister group out of Australia called Angus & Julia Stone, their whole record I love, but there’s a song called ‘Big Jet Plane’ that’s really good.

Andrew- My favourite song that I personally can’t stop listening to is our friend Austin Gibbs he just put out a record called ‘Charlie’ and there’s this song on it called ‘La La La’ and I can’t stop listening to that song, I listen to it all the time.

Eric- The song ‘Stomp’ on that record is really good too.

Andrew- He’s great, if nobody’s heard of him here you should check him out! He’s awesome, he’s like a young Ryan Adams/Butch Walker.

Nick – There’s a band called the Civil Wars they have a song called ‘Poison & Wine’, it’s an amazing song. It’s just a guy and a girl band – they just harmonise beautifully.

Andrew- Yeah, that sounds amazing!

The band then begin to talk about the recently announced US Honda Civic Tour, with mentions of “That’s insane!” and their surprise at the line-up, telling us that “You guys should come to the US!”

What’s been the best tour you’ve been involved with to-date?

In Unison – Our headliner!

Andrew – It was the most rewarding by far.

Eric – The AP tour was a lot of fun, I liked that.

Nick – That was one of our first major tours.

Andrew- There haven’t really been any tours that we don’t love!

Eric – I think the best one that we’ve done is our headlining tour.

Will you ever come back to the UK to do a headline tour of your own?

Andrew – Absolutely!

Nick – Of course!

Andrew – We just want to get to the point where we do it and more than 5 people will show up!

Eric – Hopefully sometime next year it will be possible!

Andrew – So all you people listening, make sure you come and see us and tell your friends!
