Twin Atlantic

It’s been a strong year for Twin Atlantic to say the very least. With a UK top 40 album debut, acclaimed festival performances, touring the UK, Europe and America: 2011 has truly been the band’s year to shine.

We caught up with front-man Sam McTrusty to talk about the year so far and to find out what UK fans can expect from their up and coming tour!

How do you feel 2011 has treated you?

Pretty good. I would say it has been a landmark year in my tiny life.

Personally, what would you say has been your biggest achievement this year?

The list is long… Selling out the Barrowlands, releasing Free, hearing our music on daytime radio, getting my own flat, touring America and Europe, opening festival stages for the Foo Fighters and playing to more people than we ever have at Reading and Leeds, then T In The Park and headline shows. It is too hard to pick… Every high point has been incredible. Not that I’m showing off or anything… BLAH!!

You’ve gained support in the USA, how would you say those audiences differ from the UK?

The people are the same. Rock fans are all going to gigs as an escape or for a release, so we are all like-minded that way. Americans love to talk to the band after the set, whereas the UK can be a bit more reserved.

With your up and coming UK dates, what can fans expect?

Our best show to-date and me blowing a trumpet that belongs to me. We are still on a high from the songs we have written from Free and I hope people who have paid to watch us play them live will be able to feed off of our energy, let go and have a good time! We are trying to revive good, honest, British rock music from its dark slumber, so anyone who wants to be a part of that should get involved!

Will you be playing a mix of old and new material?

Of course! We really respect all of the fans we made when we released Vivarium and our first EP A Guidance From Colour, so we want to give them what they want too. To be honest, we still love playing all of those songs live so it should be well balanced.

Can fans expect anything different to previous tours?

Because there will be more people at these shows than before we can allow ourselves to put on a bit more of a show. We’ve tried to put together a great lighting show, but we will be making sure that the music does the talking. I also think there is an energy in our fans right now that is quite exciting to play to, so hopefully we can lift them up to the next level.

Are there any songs in particular you can’t wait to play live?

The Ghost of Eddie .

And finally, what can we expect from Twin Atlantic in 2012?

More touring in the UK, Europe and North America, followed by new music later in the year. Perhaps we will all learn how to dress well and attain a good sense of humour but that’s probably a long shot!
