Single Review | Imagine Dragons | Demons

imagine dragonsAlthough fairly new to the mainstream music world, Imagine Dragons have already made a huge impact since the release of their first hit ‘Radioactive’ and follow-up singles ‘It’s Time’ and ‘Top Of The World’, selling over 10 million copies between them worldwide.

It already seems as though the fourth single from their debut album ‘Night Visions’ will follow the same success.

Demons‘ is instantly recognisable as an Imagine Dragons track as Dan Reynolds’ distinctive, powerful voice can first be heard over a subtle piano tune. The song builds up momentum with a mixture of haunting harmonies and epic drums, culminating in a collection of uplifting choruses full of emotion.

Thought provoking lyrics throughout such as “Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside, it’s where my demons hide” paint images of the human struggle of acceptance with who we are. The accompanying video sheds more light on the subject, depicting audience members at an Imagine Dragons show facing up to their problems while watching the band perform. It really hits home how much music helps people through tough times, making the song feel more poignant than ever.

‘Demons’ is not officially released until 17th February, but the video has already seen almost 50 million views on YouTube since it was first uploaded.

Every so often a song comes along that connects with so many people for so many reasons and ‘Demons’ does exactly that. A pop masterpiece both musically, lyrically and emotionally.
