Maria Jordan; What You Gonna Do?

There’s no doubt that, should Maria Jordan find herself in the UK Top 40, she would be at home there.

Her brand of country pop will be familiar to pop fans who have recently fallen in love with Taylor Swift, but this isn’t simply a case of mainstream bandwagon jumping from Jordan, whose Americana vibe is very much a sound of the moment. She’s been around for a while, and supported the likes of Newton Faulkner, The Script, James Morrison and Paloma Faith and it just so happens that the time is now right for her to emerge from the shadows.

There’s comfort to be found in the understated feel of ‘What You Gonna Do?’, a familiar chord progression and overall sound giving the track a warm feel. Jordan is genuinely talented – her songwriting credentials, previously showcased on excellent preceding single ‘Better Than Nothing’, have once more come to the fore in this new single.

If that strength is carried forward into the forthcoming album, it will be one to look forward to.

In fact, the BBC agree, naming Maria as ‘One To Watch’ – 2013 could well be an excellent year for the young songstress.
