It’s hard to believe it has been two years since Little Mix won X Factor.
Following two number one singles, a sold out headline UK tour and their debut album ‘DNA’ turning platinum, the band are back with their second album ‘Salute’ due for release on November 11th.
The band have either written or co-written 9 out of the 12 tracks on the album which features Duvall, MNEK, Nicola Roberts, Shaznay Lewis and Futurecut.
Opening with Salute, a real girl power anthem, closely followed by their latest single release Move, the girls have already proved they can produce catchy hits with contagious lyrics and strong vocals from start-to-finish.
Each song on the album has a very interesting and unique introduction mixing sampling throughout the tracks. This a very different touch that somehow despite the amount of variety doesn’t overshadow their vocals.
Little Me was first showcased on the Xtra Factor and it seems easy to see why. The song lyrics seem like they represent the girls looking back on their career and how far they have come in a short space of time.
With a mix of up-tempo and ballad tracks, These Four Walls is an extremely emotionally powered song with raw vocals throughout. It needs little production as the girls manage to maintain your attention with their crisp vocals telling an emotional tale. Good Enough is another track capturing your ears and pulling on those heart-strings.
If you’re looking for more girl-power up tempo anthems, Competition and About The Boy have very strong girlband relations with similarities to Destiny’s Child and elements of the empowerment from The Pussycat Dolls.
R&B hit Mr Loverboy is a feel good track made to sing out loud and ending with A Different Beat brings the album full circle similar to opening track Salute.
Little Mix have easily proved already they are far from just X Factor winners, they are a strong band with outstanding vocals who ooze charisma and create a very unique sound. Many of the tracks could be hit singles with ease and now we can’t wait until they tour to hear them live.
Another high achieving effort from the group and there certainly is nothing ‘little’ about it.
