Def Leppard frontman officially launches his very own beer!

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott will officially launch his very own beer on Tuesday, September 21st at The Porterhouse in Covent Garden.

Brewed and bottled by The Porterhouse, the beer was specially commissioned by Elliott himself while doing a beer tasting at the pub-group’s brewery in Dublin. Coinciding with the release of their album My Re Generation, the beer has been aptly named after the rocker’s side project band, ‘Down ‘n’ Outz’.

The launch party will feature a performance by ‘Down ‘N’ Outz’. The doors for the exclusive gig are open at 8.30pm and there will be a limited number of tickets available to the public. The tickets will not be available in advance – only on the day – and will be priced £20 (with proceeds going to the RSPCC).

Commenting on the launch Joe Elliott stated;

“Over the years I’ve noticed a lot of musicians putting their names to a variety of wines etc which, as nice as a glass of red or white is, well, it’s not very rock and roll is it??!! Beer or lager seem to be the drink of choice at nearly every gig I’ve ever played or attended so for me it’s a much cooler thing to do and having seen how The Porterhouse put quality over quantity I’m extremely happy to get involved with Oliver and his gang.”

Based on the lagers of central Europe, the beer is a pilsner style with both flavour and aroma. An alternative to many of the mass-produced beers, this has a deep, rich malt character, with generous hop bitterness. Crisp in flavour the beer is balanced by a well-developed hop aroma created by generous additions of German Hallertau Perle and Hallertau Hersbrucker. A minimum of six weeks maturation prior to packaging lend a smoothness and fullness unavailable in other similar beers. With an ABV of 5% the beer will retail at £3.70.

Oliver Hughes MD of The Porterhouse Brewing Company on the launch said;

“We’re delighted to have Joe on board with his idea. The marriage of beer and rock ‘n’ roll is always a pleasure and it certainly has been a pleasure working with him. We wish him and the Down ‘n’ Outz continued success.”

The pub group’s trendy Glasnevin outlet will also officially unveil its rock themed garden in which Elliott will entertain his guests on the opening night.

The beer will be available in all Porterhouse bars in Dublin and London with a view to distributing to the US when the group opens their Wall Street outlet before Christmas of this year. The group houses four bars in Dublin and one in London as well as two clubs and two restaurants.

The launch will see the rock group play an intimate gig at the Covent Garden outlet and revellers will be treated to special guest appearances on the night.
