Grace Grundy has released her new EP ‘With You In Mind’.
Co-written by Grace, the 6-track EP explores themes including romance, hopefulness and acceptance.
Speaking of the EP, Grace said: “After lots of experimentation and self-examination these songs are exactly what I want to say as an artist right now and it’s a culmination of lots of long nights, train rides, different cities and most importantly the many wonderfully talented people who have helped make it what it is. I have loved making covers of my favourite songs and putting my own spin on them but I’ve always felt I had more to say as an artist. I grew up obsessed with music and art so to have had to chance to create these songs and the world around them as been a dream. It’s a totally different level of nerves and care when all these songs have come from such a personal place and I can’t wait to get them out there.”
To celebrate her EP release, we caught up with Grace to discover 5 tracks that influenced ‘With You In Mind’.
Jeremy Zucker & Chelsea Cutler – Emily | Listen via Spotify
The whole Brent II EP around this song is one we referred back to a lot, because of how honest and real the sounds felt. Everything is so intentionally used and that was something Jase (Elliott) and Si (Cripps) and myself kept referring back to: does whatever sound we’re adding feel intentional and give value or are we just filling the space? It meant hours searching for the right sounds but it was so worth it when you find it and know you didn’t settle.
Gracie Abrams – I Miss You I’m Sorry | Listen via Spotify
Everything Gracie Abrams is doing feels so unique and honest whilst still sitting in that pop music space I love. This song in particular treads the line of epic pop (with the fullness of the drums, strings, and harmony layers at the end), whilst somehow feeling so personal and conversational too. That’s a balance I really wanted to strike for Boys On Posters so this was a song we often went back to for inspiration.
Carobae – I Don’t Miss You | Listen via Spotify
We loved the guitar tone and space around her vocal in this one. It hits so hard yet the production is super simple. I also loved the subtle but growing synth and pad sounds that give it loads of feeling but leave so much space for the story and melodies. We played around with pads and synths across a lot of the songs, and I really love the texture and atmosphere they give to something without drawing too much attention to themselves.
Clairo – Bags | Listen via Spotify
I had this song on repeat to and from the studio whilst we were finishing up the project. The drums and bass in this song give it such a dreamlike yet grungy feel which I absolutely loved and really related to from growing up listening to pop punk and people like Bright Eyes. It’s a feeling I really wanted to try and capture in my own music and definitely influenced parts of the EP like ‘Losers Together’ and in a small way, ‘Wish I Could Stay’.
Phoebe Bridgers – Smoke Signals | Listen via Spotify
I mean, some of the most beautiful strings I have ever heard.. constantly referred back to this one, especially for the strings in Headspace.
