After discovering American DJ Rosstar (DJ Rossstar) in his apartment studio one night, when suffering from insomnia, we were extremely interested to find out more about his new style of interviewing.
The interview we watched was completely different to any other; in the sense it was a completely relaxed atmosphere, the fans were involved throughout the show during a chat board (and even having phone calls with his guests) and it was all broadcast live online.
We managed to track down DJ Rossstar to find out more about his unique show.
What inspires you to focus the show on the fans so much?
I loved watching interviews on TV, but HATED that I couldn’t ask questions. Especially because the typical TV questions are very basic ones that most fans already know the answers to. I don’t know EVERY fact about EVERY artist I interview, so I want the viewers to join in and help out!
Who has been the most interesting person you’ve had in the studio and why?
You may not like this answer, but honestly I have been able to find interesting things about everyone I have interviewed.
Who has been the most ‘famous’ person, to you, that you have interviewed?
It’s hard to crown someone the ‘most famous’ person. My favorite interviews have been with artists I grew up going to see live (Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Goldfinger), but the average viewer would probably name Pete Wentz, Katy Perry & Taylor Momsen as being the most famous artists to enter my apartment.
Do you prefer to be in studio or out of studio when it comes to interviews?
I LOVE being in my studio and I LOVE doing my show live. I will go on location for Warped Tour and Bamboozle events, but otherwise I love the thrill or knowing that anything can happen during a live show and there is no editing involved.
You have a lot of fan interaction on the show, what has been the weirdest fan interaction you’ve had on the show?
The viewers love to send wild questions. ‘What would you name your pet tiger’ or ‘Which member of the band would you eat if you were stranded on an island’ … questions of that nature!
If you could interview any artist, no limits, who would it be and why?
Green Day. Their music has influenced me for the past 17 years of my life & I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.
Which bands do you enjoy listening to aside from the show?
Besides Green Day, some of my personal favorites are Sum 41, New Found Glory, The Matches & Bayside!
What has been your favourite concert you’ve been to so far?
Green Day concerts are the best, but one that stands out in on October 8th, 2005 when Billie Joe brought me on stage to perform the song ‘Knowledge’ on guitar in front of 30,000 people.
What can we expect in the future from DJ ROSSSTAR?
My show will continue to air live every Wednesday & Thursday night @ 7pm PT (10pm ET) on stickam.com/djrossstar & I will ALWAYS have a studio guest for every single show!
