John Wean

Claire White

We caught up with our festival favourites John Wean after their set at this year’s Wickerman Festival.

So how many festivals have you guys played?

Conor – This is the first!

Really!? You could never tell haha! So how did you find that?

Jude – Exhilarating!
Conor – Really really good. The bigger stage makes a really big difference to what we can do…
Jude – It was packed as well.
Conor – I thought the crowd were really good, it was brilliant!
Jude- It was really great fun.

Did you have any festival preparations for today?

Laughter
Conor – Going out in Sheffield last night at the O2 Academy and that was…a lot of fun!
Jude – Tell her all about it!
Conor- I don’t think I wanna tell any stories from there
Jude- He’d prefer to keep that private!
Tour manager – What happens on tour stays on tour!
Conor – Yeah we went out there and got about 3 hours sleep.
Jude – I’ve made a bed in the van so I’m sleeping really well right now, I think I’m the brightest one out of the bunch!

Can you describe your EP to the readers?

Conor – It’s a amalgamation of what we’ve been doing over the past two years. I mean we’ve got tracks on there that are really quite old like I wrote them when I was sixteen and I’m nineteen now. I was young and foolish! We’ve got some newer stuff on there like ‘Viva’, it’s a newer track that we only recorded a few months ago. It’s a progression, but not so much that it’s night and day.

So what’s your favourite song to play live?

Jude – Viva, but I mean people will listen to that and think it’s dead musical, but whereas see if you play live and there’s people watching and you play like ‘New York’ and the crowd jumps about then I prefer that. Watching them is kinda more fun than playing anything, whatever they jump about most at!
Conor – I really like ‘Pure’. ‘Pure’ is my favourite to play just because when I get to sing at the end, I can hear a pin drop and it’s nice…I quite enjoy the sound of pins dropping Laughter
Jude – But this time you can hear a pin drop cause everyone was in but being quiet, usually nobodies there!! Laughter Nah I’m kidding on…there’s always at least ten!

What would be your dream festival to play?

Conor – Oh that’s a good question!
Jude – Coachella. It’s an absolute belter of a festival, great vibes and every band is deservedly there for a reason and it’s in a desert – what more could you ask for! Do you know what I mean? You don’t get flooding, you don’t try to swim to your tent, it’s just amazing so that’s definitely the answer there!
Conor- I’d quite like to play Benicassim cause all my friends are there this year and I couldn’t go cause I was on tour and I’ve never been more gutted in my life!
Jude- Aye, it’s crap being on tour isn’t it? FORGET IT! Laughter That’s the end of it, that’s the band broke up!

Last question, what can we expect from you guys this year?

Jude- What CAN you expect?! Laughter
Conor –I think we are gonna record another EP so another 4 or 5 tracked EP and get that one out early next year. We will probably be recording that in December maybe even November if we can get our songs sorted for it!
Jude – September is the next big tour you’ll hear about…
Conor- It’s gonna be absolute mayhem and I’m not even kidding on…we’ll maybe get fined.
Jude – No we’ll not get fined…we’ll get found! Laughter
Conor – That just rolled out!!
Jude – Make that your tag line!

We’re sure this won’t be the last we hear of this fantastic Glasgow band!
