Gabriella Rego is a Latin pop singer/songwriter hailing from West London.
Alike many singers trying to make it in the music world, Gabriella posts videos via her YouTube channel performing cover songs and original tracks.
Her music is heavily influenced by Latin Pop and RnB whilst staying true to her Portuguese roots. Gabriella cites her music inspirations as the likes of J LO, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and Shakira.
Her debut EP ‘Need to Know’ is available on iTunes & Amazon.
We caught up with Gabriella to allow her to introduce herself to you…
For those who have yet to discover your music, how would you best describe it?
For someone who hasn’t heard my music, I would say that it’s Pop music with a hint of Latin flavour
Who do you cite as your main influences?
I would say my main influence is Jennifer Lopez. I’ve listened to her music since I was little. She also has a Latin background and I guess that made me become more interested in her music. I’m also influenced by Shakira, Christina Aguilera, and of course the legendary Whitney Houston.
Where do you gain your writing inspiration from?
I guess I get inspiration from every day life, previous experiences, or experiences that my family and friends have gone through. Whenever something inspiring happens, I turn to my lyric book and begin to jot down ideas.
Which track from your debut EP would you recommend to the readers?
I would most definitely recommend track two which is called ‘Over’. It was one of the earlier songs that I wrote. I absolutely fell in love with the track and the lyrics just seemed to flow. There’s also a video for it on my YouTube page.
Are there any particular venues you would love to perform in?
I would love to perform Wembley! I know it’s a massive ambition, but if you don’t aim high you wont achieve great things. I went to see my first concert in Wembley. Britney Spears was playing there. My dad surprised me with tickets. I was only 12 years old, but i absolutely loved it, and I think that’s why I would love to perform there.
Your perform acoustic covers on YouTube, are there any which have been your favourite to-date?
I think my favourite acoustic to date would have to be my cover of Jessie J’s ‘Nobody’s Perfect’. It’s got nearly 2,000 views on YouTube at the moment. I think generally my fans also enjoyed that one the most. I just recorded some acoustics the other day, so there will be a lot more to come very soon!!
What would you say you can bring to the RnB and pop scene in the UK?
I’d like to think that I’m different from everything that is out there at the moment. There’s no one out there at the moment in the UK whose music has a :atin influence so I’d like to think that I’m bringing something completely different to UK music.
What can we expect in 2013?
I’m currently starting my last semester of my degree at University so by June I will have a lot more free time to focus on recording and releasing new material. For now I have been gigging regularly around London and sometimes Luton. I’m also planning to release acoustics on YouTube at least twice a month and I might even release a couple of songs on iTunes that are already recorded and ready to be released. To keep up with everything I’m doing this year, make sure to check out all of my social networks.
