My Preserver

London-based 4-piece My Preserver have already gained attention in the music world.

Last year, the band were nominated for XFM’s New Music Award and sold out headline shows at London’s Borderline and 100 Club.

The band have recorded their debut album ‘Revolutions In The Head’ which is produced by Premen Underhill (Bloc Party, Klaxons) and set for release this Autumn.

We caught up with the band to find out more.

How did it feel to not only be nominated for an XFM Award, but also playing sold out headline shows at London’s Borderline and 100 Club?

We’re really pleased that an album recorded off our own backs has gained recognition with XFM, it was a fantastic feeling to see it alongside so many great artists. On the live side, playing historic London venues is always a highlight, and when they’re full of fans that’s even better!

For those who have yet to discover the band, how would you describe your sound?

There’s a lot of influences both old and new from many different genres but My Preserver is definitely an alternative rock band. Most importantly people have always told us we sound like ourselves and that’s something that has evolved in the time we’ve been making records together.

How do you go about the writing process for your albums?

It’s a combination of making demos and jamming things out in the rehearsal room. Marcus & Jonathon bring the ideas to the table and then the creative fist fight that is a My Preserver rehearsal unfolds! We’re brutally honest with each other and that’s why the relationship works.

How do you settle on a song title?

In general the lyrics speak about current affairs and things going on in the world around us, the song titles are usually decided by taking either the strongest lyric or the subject of the song.

Which of your forthcoming shows are you most looking forward to?

That’s always hard to say as every show is important, but it was fantastic to be offered The Great Escape as it’s such a huge event for new music.

What can we expect from your performance at The Great Escape Festival?

An exciting high energy rock show! All the singles due for release this year will be played and they’ll also be a couple of new ones flying around.

Where would be the ‘ultimate’ place for you to hear your own music playing? (For example on a TV programme/advert/venue/shop etc!)

The way fans react when they hear one of their favourite songs played from a festival stage between bands, it would be amazing to experience that with My Preserver.

What do you want to achieve by the end of 2012?

With three singles and the album coming out this year it would be great to see the profile of the band continue to build. The sky’s the limit but realistically successful record releases and tours would be awesome.

Is there anything else you wish to add?

A big thank you to the Love Music; Love Life readers for checking us out! Our single ‘King Jesus’ will be out on May 28th and the video will also be up next month, in the meantime you can download the B side free from www.mypreserver.com.
