Jolé | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Silver Lake’

Jolé has released his new EP ‘Silver Lake’.

Written when in Los Angeles, Jolé unveiled the EP’s lead single ‘Alpine Green’ which landed our TOTD slot upon release.

Speaking of the EP, Jolé said: “This EP came out of a trip to LA in August of last year. I spent 6 weeks with 2 friends, writing, travelling and living in a studio apartment. With all the amazing moments that came with the trip I also missed my friends and loved ones back home and was reminded how grateful I am to have them in my life. I had written my first album 2 years previous to this so musically I was writing very differently.

“Having written a lot for other people in the lead up to the trip, these songs were a bit of an experiment to see where I was going with my own songs. I wanted to create something simple, based around the guitar and vocals, putting emphasis on the lyrics. This group of songs are some of my most personal to date and each one holds its own identity. It’s about sharing experiences, travelling the world, soaking in your surroundings and being grateful for what you have. It’s my first self produced release but has turned in to collaborative labour of love with friends and family.”

To celebrate his EP release, we caught up with Jolé to discover 5 tracks that influenced ‘Silver Lake’.

Sam Fender – Will We Talk? | Listen via Spotify
I used to run every morning to this song before I started writing. Although it’s not the sound of the EP it played the very important part of waking me up!

Noah Gundersen – Wrong Side | Listen via Spotify
I love the production and sounds on this song.

Leif Vollebekk – Hot Tears | Listen via Spotify
I saw him play live at The Moroccan Lounge and it was one of the best shows I’ve been to. His songwriting is incredible.

Angelo De Augustine – Time | Listen via Spotify
I love the simplicity of this song, it’s really playful and uplifting.

Elliot Smith – A Fond Farewell | Listen via Spotify
This is one of my all-time favourite songs!
