Lilura | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Nylon’

Lilura has released her new single ‘Nylon’.

The new track from singer-songwriter Jemma Tweede was co-written as a “glittering ode to female empowerment” with Edinburgh’s electronic producer and singer-songwriter Kohla, who we’re a big fan of at LMLL HQ!

Speaking of the single, Lilura explained: “‘Nylon’ is a song for girls who aren’t afraid to ‘call the shots’ inside and outside of the bedroom. There’s a strength in the female physique and mind. We can be really headstrong but in the past, we were taught to keep quiet and not to speak about our ambitions or sex lives as it was taboo. I think things are definitely changing and we are becoming confident in voicing our opinions letting it be known what we want. It’s about taking control of our femininity and empowering ourselves, pushing boundaries confidently without worrying what other people think.”

To celebrate the single release, due out on December 6th, we caught up with Jemma to delve into the influence behind the single with 5 tracks that influenced ‘Nylon’.

Halsey – Hurricane | Listen
I’m a big fan of all of her work, but in particular this track. It has a really catchy hook that I caught as an earworm after the first listen and I hope ‘Nylon’ also has that effect on listeners.

Kohla – T O U C H | Listen
I couldn’t not mention this girl. She’s the reason ‘Nylon’ was created and is the queen of minimal moody pop. She’s also a really good friend, co-writer and all-round great artist, so it would be rude not to big her up this much. ‘Touch’ is my favourite track she has released so far, it’s got the sass that I like to try and portray.

Lykke Li – Sex Money Feelings Die | Listen
This caught my attention because it’s different to most of her other tracks. Its got that trap feel to it and is a bold statement. I admire that.

Charli XCX – White Roses | Listen
Probably one of my favourite Charli tracks. Again, it’s very minimal on the production front but has very pretty synthetic sounding vocals. I feel like a lot of female artists are doing this right now and it might just be a passing trend but I love it. The lyrics are intimate and I feel like it all just creates such a chill moment.

BANKS – Weaker Girl | Listen
There’s so much power in the lyrics of this track. It’s real badass chill vibes. The kind of track you would put on when you’re feeling independent and empowered, strutting about with attitude. I’ve got a whole playlist of that kind of songs but yeah, banks is badass and I feel like ‘Nylon’ is pretty badass in it’s own brooding way. I really wanted people to feel empowered when listening to it.
