Live Review | Corella | Sneaky Pete’s

The snow didn’t stop Corella from bringing their sun-kissed singles to Sneaky Pete’s.

Fans braved the weather to head down to the Cowgate venue for the band’s Saturday night sold out show.

Support on the night came from Gypsy Circus and NOAH NOAH, a great match as each showcased a side of Corella’s musical style.

Openers Gypsy Circus managed to warm things up in the venue with an impressive rock-edged set while NOAH NOAH’s bouncy singles, with a unique twist thanks to added trumpet, leaned towards the indie sound.

With Sneaky Pete’s intimate stylings, Corella strolled before launching straight into their set with frontman Joel Smith’s vocals consistently strong from the first note. Corella wasted no time in showcasing their signature indie sound making it impossible for anyone to stand still, as their upbeat indie pop singles took over the venue with contagious choruses’ and riffs set for the festival season.

The band have a great connection on stage and the set flowed together with ease, making it unrecognisable it was their first headliner in the capital as they seemed confident and well-rehearsed.

With short crowd interaction and appreciation throughout, latest single ‘Caught Up’ and ‘Say Something’ drew a strong reception thanks to their shimmering sounds, making it easy to forget about the snow piled high outside.

Ending on their most widely-known single ‘Barcelona Girl’, the track brought the night to an uplifting end, wishing summer was in sight.

Many indie pop bands can find singles losing their ground live, but Corella’s tracks transitioned with ease as the gig atmosphere added an extra glint, with each track more than able to stand its own.

Now, we’re counting down the days to summer and eagerly awaiting Corella’s future singles to soundtrack our sun-kissed days.
