Despite the rainy weather, it seems nothing would dampen the spirits of the strong 75,000 music fans who arrived at Wembley Arena on June 12th for Capital FM’s annual Summertime Ball event. This year the line-up featured artists such as JLS, Cee Lo Green, Jennifer Lopez and Ne-Yo.
Here’s a small list of our favourites from the day!
Mike Posner only sung one track on the day with ‘Cooler Than Me’ and it would be said by the crowd’s reaction that he was favoured to sing more than this. Acts such as Far East Movement who performed more than one song, yet only managed to engage the crowd on popular track ‘Like A G6’, proved that perhaps Mike would have been a better choice to perform more than one track on the day to keep the crowd engaged for a full set. The singer even showed his dedication to the London crowd by removing his jacket in the pouring rain and jumping around the stage topless.
Example had the 75,000 crowd at Wembley fully engaged throughout his set. Not one pair of feet were remaining on the ground, as the whole stadium were ‘bouncing’ on Example’s request. He was one of the strongest acts of the whole day in terms of crowd reception and he certainly made use of the massive stage and runway engaging with all fans throughout the stadium. His set also featured a guest appearance from Wretch 32 which was another favoured aspect to his set for the supportive crowd.
J Lo showed Wembley that she certainly hasn’t lost her touch, as she made her stage presence felt throughout the venue immediately. Singing a mixture of her old hits, which went down a treat with the crowd, the singer danced around the stage as if she owned it; looking stunning in her outfit changes she certainly did not let the crowd down. With her stage set-up she appeared in a massive love heart and making the most of every performance, the crowd seemed very impressed with J Lo’s return and fully appreciated her full set singing along to her classic hits and dancing along to her new songs.
Nicole Scherzinger proved her place on the Capital FM line-up with ease. With her strong dance routines, she proved that she can sing and perform live with ease. With dancing non-stop and the strong choreography throughout, she made the most of her set engaging with old fans by singing Pussycat Doll favourite “Don’t Cha” and new fans of her solo material with her new tracks. There was moments for everyone within her set, those who enjoyed singing along, those who enjoyed dancing along and a moment to marvel at Nicole’s flawless dance routines.
It is safe to say that Enrique Iglesias captured the hearts of the audience as he charmed the crowd at Wembley with his Latino spirit. The singer even pulled one lucky fan on stage to serenade her with the most popular song in his set ‘Hero’. The girl was even lucky enough to share a kiss with Enrique, but he did ask her beforehand if she was 18 due to a misfortunate kiss previously with a 15-year-old(!), and at that moment the stadium erupted into cheers and complete shock (not forgetting the jealousy that filled the air!). Enrique was also joined on stage by Nicole Scherzinger for track ‘Heartbeat’ in which the two had a very sensual performance with the crowd falling even more in love! After his appearance at Wembley, it was safe to say that every girl in the crowd wanted to be with him and every guy wanted to be him, as the screams and applause filled the damp air.
The Wanted appeared from the underground catwalk for their performance building the anticipation for the band’s set. After being invited to play just one song last year, the band were invited back to take part much more in this years line-up. Playing an array of tracks from their debut single ‘All Time Low’ to brand new single ‘I’m Glad You Came’, which received a fantastic reception considering it has not been released yet. The band had the audience engaged for every single track they performed. With the band’s strong routines and clear band bond, their smiling happy attitude was contagious to anyone watching. The band even surprised the crowd and had glitter cannons for Comic Relief single ‘Gold Forever’ spreading gold pieces of glitter through the air at Wembley stadium creating a clever effect. Overall, they performed a great set for fans old and new and proved their place with ease for the longer slot at this year’s event.
Jessie J managed to make her performance at the Capital FM Summertime Ball after doctors advised her to rest. As she sat on a large gold throne with her leg bandaged up, she managed to keep the crowd entertained singing her hits. Her vocals were exactly as they sound recorded and she did manage to keep the audience engaged, despite not being able to move around the stage to engage with them as she usually does with performing.
LMFAO were certainly a well anticipated act who did not disappoint. Before the band entered the stage their track ‘Party Rock Anthem’ which everyone was keen to hear started playing, as a video appeared on the large screens either side of the stage explaining that everyone in the crowd was to pay attention. As all eyes fell upon the large screens the crowd were taught a step-by-step dance routine to the track. As the slowed down version of the song played across the stadium, people starting moving out their seats, standing up and joining in with the dance routine shown on the screens. The full routine was taught and LMFAO entered the stage and launched straight into the track as the intro had perfectly warmed up the crowd who were eagerly awaiting to join in and dance along to the chorus. It was certainly a sight to see as 75,000 people were shufflin’ at Wembley Stadium as far as you could see.

Overall, the day provided a good overall mix of artists. There were plenty of moments for the crowd to get involved and dance the day away. Each act provided a great variety of tracks for the audience, with those older fans and newer fans to join in with ease. The presenters even managed to keep the crowd in good spirits singing along about the showery rain that certainly did not dampen the crowds spirit.
