NATI | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Golden’

NATI has released her new single ‘Golden’.

Written with Prentice Robertson, the single is a taster of her new EP, due out in March 2025.

Speaking of the single, NATI said: “’Golden’ really is a healing EP and writing it was incredibly healing for me. I hope that others can find the same self-preservation.”

To celebrate her single release, NATI shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Golden’.

Maggie Rogers – Be Cool
I remember listening to this song, nay this whole album and immediately felt a strong connection. What I enjoyed the most about this particular song was how energetic and live it sounded. Little did I know Maggie would actually go on to say that she wrote it to have a kick ass live song. Lots of artists do that. I’m sure Billie Eilish said she wrote ‘Oxytocin’ because she wanted a song that would slap in a live setting. I wanted this. As much as I love to write songs where I can bare my soul, sometimes it’s nice to just have a loud, fun, energetic live song and that’s exactly what we wanted to capture in this track. I wanted fun, loud, joyous noise and I think we nailed that.

HAIM – The Wire
This tune hooks you in immediately. That driving beat, the guitar riff and that funky almost percussive vocal performance in the verse. I used this as a reference because of how much fun they seem to he having is this recording. ‘Golden’ is a very positive song about nostalgia & youth so the organic moments of laughter or the real life clips of my friends laughing were so important. You can actually hear in my voice how much I’m smiling!

Lewis Capaldi – Forget Me
This was purely referenced from a vocal perspective, specifically how close it sounds like his mouth is to that mic. It’s almost like he’s in your brain it’s so intimate and I wanted that same closeness and intimacy with ‘Golden’.

The Darkness – Growing On Me
One word. Guitars. Guitars, guitars and more guitars. Listen, I’m nowhere near as talented as those Hawkins brothers but when we reached the recording process of ‘Golden’, we just kept adding more guitar parts and we wanted it to sound a little beefier as this whole EP is much louder. I wanted the same soaring tones and crunch-tastic chords and that whole album is the epitome of tone and crunch.

Florence and the Machine – The Dog Days Are Over
“What the heck is going on, what is all this noise and why do I love it so much?!”– That’s what this song felt like when I first listened to her debut album in 2010. This song in particular never seems to leave my playlists on Spotify. It’s big, it’s bold, it’s bright, it’s hopeful and it’s bloody loud which is exactly the flavour and feeling I wanted ‘Golden’ to have.
