Dancing Queen: An ABBA Tribute at theSpace is exactly the show you’d imagine.
And it’s not a music themed show for those who want to sit back and relax.
A few songs in, the audience were already on their feet, and stayed there until the end. With the band more than happy to encourage the dancing.
Night Owl are renowned for their tribute style shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and for all the right reasons. Instead of imitation, they make it their own and pay respect to the originals in a celebration of their music. Through clever storytelling, the band delve into the meaning behind the songs giving you little facts to show off with along the way.
From ‘Waterloo’ to ‘Dancing Queen’ and everything inbetween, this afternoon celebrated ABBA’s incredible journey from Eurovision hopefuls to global superstars.
The five-piece Night Owl band were incredible on stage, with two standout lead vocalists. Maia Elsey looked completely in her element from the very first song, while Kiah Spurle, despite appearing nervous at first, delivered an incredible solo of The Winner Takes It All. Her performance was effortless, proving there was never any need to worry. An undeniable talent, she rightly stole the show, leaving the audience with a goosebump-inducing singalong.
It’s easy to forget how much of an incredible band ABBA were and the influence they had across the globe in the 1970s and how one band continue to have such an impact today over 50 years later.
Ending with a ‘megamix’ of ABBA’s biggest classics, this show is the ultimate feel-good experience for any ABBA fan.
It was over far too quickly, leaving us dancing our way into the afternoon — and even into the night!
