Patersani | 5 tracks that influenced ‘From you, from here’ EP

Patersani have shared the top singles that influenced the release of their new EP ‘From you, from here’.

Recorded in February 2018 at 45 A-Side Recordings in Glasgow with Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic, Fatherson), the EP was released on May 16th.

Already racking up support from the likes of Jim Gellatly, Spotify and STV, the release comes ahead of the band’s summer festival schedule including slots at Bearded Theory’s Spring Gathering, Sunday Sessions Scotland and Midstock.

To celebrate the EPs release and success, we caught up with Dave Paterson to share the top tracks that influenced the release.

The Cure – Close to me

When most listeners hear our music I think the last thing they think is “they really sound like The Cure”, but the number of music industry professionals or slightly older listeners who make the comparison is quite staggering. I think for this EP it’s probably more obvious than ever before, particularly on track three ‘Planets’. We sort of embraced the idea, channelled our inner Robert Smith and really had fun in the recording with live impromptu moments.

Kings of Leon – Waste A Moment

This is probably a lot more obvious to listeners! We have been compared to or called ‘a Scottish Kings of Leon’ more times than we could list, which we take as a massive compliment since we are huge fans. I think inevitably growing up fans of a band they will influence your sound. For us it’s the way they write fast-paced rock music but with anthemic hooks, I guess that’s what we are trying to do. We want fun, fast-paced rock but with a stadium sound.

Circa Waves – Stuck In My Teeth

It’s the awesome staccato guitar! We just love this track. Its high energy, total summer, festival music – what band doesn’t want to produce that?! I think the staccato guitar playing is particularly prominent in ‘Ella, Ella‘ and ‘Planets’. I guess, much like Circa Waves do, we want to produce music that gets people moving about and makes them happy!

The Hunna – Bonfire

This is our ‘Some Other Guy’ – the ballad of the EP! We wanted to try something that put us out of our comfort zone while still having it obviously recognisable as one of our songs. I think The Hunna have a real talent in this sense, they are great at writing songs that could be played acoustically to three people on an open mic night but also to 2,000 people in the Barras.

The Strokes – Taken For A Fool

We are all huge fans of The Strokes, rewind to ‘First impressions of Earth’ and it was around the time we were forming our first band in our pal’s garage driving everyone six streets either side to tears. You can really feel The Strokes influence through our songs and across this EP. The songs almost feel like a competition between the lead guitar, bass and vocals. As soon as one drops off the other one picks up. What we love about that style of songwriting is that it keeps the song fresh and holds the listeners attention. Each time you listen to the tracks you find something else you enjoy!!! Well fingers crossed anyway…
