Track of the Day | Martha Hill – Spiders

Martha Hill has released her debut single ‘Spiders’.

Originally from Scotland, Martha left home at 17 to tour Europe as a street musician before settling down in Newcastle.

Since then, Martha has toured the UK twice with her most recent gig for BBC Introducing supporting Mahalia on The Biggest Weekend Fringe Tour.

The new single release comes ahead of her appearance at Girls To The Front Festival at London’s Green Note on June 24th.

Speaking of the single, Martha explained: “I wrote ‘Spiders’ after a bat broke into my house in Heaton. My housemate came home and thought I was making it up, this sparked off the idea for the song – hallucinations, feeling crazed. It references emotional health – “spiders in my head” – as well as feelings of displacement.”

Immediately hooking you in, ‘Spiders’ is an alt-pop gem that encapsulates her busking roots with an added soulful spark. With contagious lyrics that’ll leave you singing along, the single flows with intrigue, leaving you in anticipation of each line sung.
